Melissa JanssenMELISSA JANSSEN:
Educational background:  My undergraduate degree was completed at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in Secondary Education – Social Studies.  I completed graduate course work at St. Cloud State University to add teaching licensure in Specific Learning Disabilities and Emotional & Behavioral Disorders, and have completed                                                                                    my Masters degree in Special Education at SCSU.

Teaching experience:  I taught social studies for four years at a high school and an alternative program before going back for my special education licensure.  I have been teaching special education at Crosby-Ironton High School since 2004.

Why I became an educator:  I was undecided when I went to college and I took a career/personality assessment to help me determine what careers I was best suited for.  When I received the results the top 10 items were all teaching related, so I figured that was a pretty big sign of what I was meant to do with my life.  Ironically the number one item recommended for me was teaching Special Education, and number two was social studies but I had to take the long way to find the right fit for me.
